i have always been fascinated by the cholas of east l.a., who are, in my opinion, the original bad girls. their style and their swagger make them just as tough, if not tougher, than their male counterparts, the cholos. check out the work of amazing photographer amanda lopez here: http://amandalopezphoto.com/?0. she captures some real-life cholas in east l.a., depicting them with respect, dignity, and a whole lotta attitude.

sweet summer dress

check this out...the spots on the dress are created by inserting felt-tip pens into the pockets and letting them bleed. apparently the is ink is washable, so if you tire of one pattern, there is plenty of opportunity to change it!

which is probably the most misogynistic video i've ever seen, but the beginning of it, especially the "scrub it, girl" line is hilarious. he sings in punjabi, i think. or hindi? either way, its derogatory, but i kind of still like it. my liberal all-women's college education is failing me hard.

Johnny Ragga- Abshewi

sick ethiopian reggae (yes, reggae) all you trustifarians out there forget that the rastafari believe that ethiopian leader haile selassi was the jah incarnate. "abshewi" means "ethiopian woman" in amharic, and apparently he is singing about how beautiful ethiopian women are. thats as far as i got in the comprehension department.
