dia de los muertos (day of the dead) is a holiday that is primarily celebrated in mexico, but also in other parts of central america as well. people in these parts of the world view death as an integral part of life, not something to be dreaded or feared, so dia de los muertos serves as a day to honor all the loved ones we've lost. these skulls are especially iconic, and in mexico, they make them out of sugar and decorate them with icing and foil. when i was younger, mah daddy actually bought us home one from DF that was literally the size of a human skull, but made entirely out of sugar. trippy.
